S.A.P.C.T Gilding Competition @ The City of Glasgow College
On Saturday 22nd April, the Painting and decorating section welcomed the Scottish Association of Painting Craft Teachers for their 1st annual Gilding Competition in association with the Incorporation of Wrights. The day started off very well with students and lectures from our college, Angus College, City Build College, and South Lanarkshire gathered to be shown examples of great work by Mr Tommy Little and our very own Harry Mulvenna, demonstrating the arts of gold leafing, glass gilding and sign writing. This lead to student and staff to take part in the 1st annual competition (one for staff and one for students). We were represented by 4 students (Jade Dallas, Caitlyn Lynn, Marjorie Martin, and Jason Edgar) and 1 of our painting lectures (Michael McEwan). The afternoon progressed well with some great work from all our students and staff for the judging of this competition, (and not to make it biased) we welcomed the Deacon of the Incorporation of Wrights to give us as speech and decided who our winners were of this dying art, and we are glad to announce that one of our students Jason Edgar won as a representative for the students for the City of Glasgow College and our own Lecture came in 2nd only just to be piped at the post by City build College.
Overall this was a great day and everyone was well impressed with the college and our Painting and Decorating department and with the great work that was produced on that day, and we all look forward the event again next year.
